About the Journal

The Pensiero Journal was founded under the Canadian Italian Association of York in 2025. In alliance with the club’s mission to celebrate and bridge Italian heritage with Canadian culture, Pensiero continues this vision through the form of academic writing. The journal highlights Italian and Italian-Canadian culture, giving students the opportunity to contribute to knowledge in these fields. By showcasing new academic work on these topics, Pensiero provides a platform for continued connections and appreciation of Italian and Italian-Canadian culture.

The mission of Pensiero is to promote the scholarly inquiry of Italian and Italian-Canadian culture, history, and language amongst students to provide a deeper understanding of the cultural heritage of Italy, as well as its significance in a global context.

Pensiero accepts research articles and creative writing pieces in English or Italian on the following topics: Italian art, history, literature, linguistics, language, cinema, music, opera, food studies, migration, and Italian-Canadian culture, literature, language, and history. Pensiero is open to authors from any institution worldwide. They must be undergraduate students or recent graduates (within 2–3 years). Only works that have not been previously published are permitted. Articles received will be initially reviewed by editors of the journal. Subsequently, they will be peer reviewed via a double-blind peer review process, meaning that the identity of the reviewer is not disclosed, nor is the author of the work submitted.
